I’m JJ Everitt, and The Zen Thing began as a personal exploration of mental clarity, long before I published it.

This project is built on experimentation, reflection, and rebuilding. Everything shared through The Zen Thing has been tested in my daily life, and I adjusted when it failed. I simplified until it worked. The focus is on removing friction rather than adding effort, and on creating a structure that supports stability instead of demanding constant self-control. Inspiration comes from minimalist philosophy, mindfulness practices, Buddhist principles, and practical growth mindset psychology, but always filtered through lived reality.

The Zen Thing is not about fixing yourself or striving toward an idealized version of who you should be. It is about learning how to support yourself where you are, with honesty and compassion. It recognizes that progress is rarely linear and that relief often matters more than achievement. This work speaks especially to people navigating ADHD, anxiety, burnout, or chronic overwhelm, but it is ultimately for anyone who wants a calmer, more functional way of living.

It’s about removing mental noise, so better decisions become a default.

About Me

Photography is my creative outlet

It centers me and leaves no room for distractions

My Philosophy on Personal Growth

I don’t believe in extreme routines or rigid self-improvement systems. Growth should support your nervous system, not fight it.

Progress doesn’t require pressure. It requires clarity.

While The Zen Thing is primarily a free educational platform, I also offer focused services designed to support clarity and direction.

These include:

  • Digital self-help resources designed to reduce the day-to-day overwhelm

  • Guided frameworks for mental clarity and reflection

  • Written tools that help untangle thought patterns and decision fatigue

  • Sign up for the free monthly newsletter and get my ADHD Minimalist Morning Routine
