About JJ Everitt

I’m JJ Everitt, and The Zen Thing began as a personal exploration of mental clarity, long before it became a blog.

Like many people drawn to self-help, I didn’t start because everything was going well. I started because my mind felt cluttered, overwhelmed, and constantly searching for answers that never quite landed. Traditional self-help felt loud, rigid, and disconnected from real life.

So I started asking different questions.

Instead of “How do I optimize everything?” I asked, “What can I remove?”
Instead of “How do I become better?” I asked, “How do I understand myself more clearly?”

That shift changed everything.

I write from lived experience, not theory alone. The ideas here are shaped by real moments: burnout, reflection, simplification, and learning how to work with the mind instead of against it. The goal is not to tell you how to live—but to help you think more clearly about how you want to live.

It’s about removing mental noise, so better decisions become obvious.

My Philosophy on Personal Growth

I don’t believe in extreme routines or rigid self-improvement systems. Growth should support your nervous system, not fight it.

Progress doesn’t require pressure. It requires clarity.

While The Zen Thing is primarily a free educational platform, I also offer focused services designed to support clarity and direction.

These include:

  • Digital self-help resources designed to reduce overwhelm

  • Guided frameworks for mental clarity and reflection

  • Written tools that help untangle thought patterns and decision fatigue

Each offering is designed to be practical, grounded, and immediately usable—without requiring a lifestyle overhaul.

If You’re Here, You’re Already Doing the Work

Reading, reflecting, and questioning your current patterns is the work. The Zen Thing exists to support that process—quietly, thoughtfully, and honestly.
